TherGlass Concrete BASE COAT
Compound in the form of dry mortar, to be applied as a crystalline chemical treatment for the repair, waterproofing and protection of existing concrete.
TherGlass Concrete ® BASE COAT is a chemical treatment for the repair, waterproofing and protection of existing concrete.
TherGlass Concrete ® BASE COAT is a dry mortar compound based on Portland cement, silica sands of selected granulometries and active chemical additives. It is applied as a cementitious mixture on the surface, previously saturated with water, in existing structures both above and below ground level.
Specifications and Application Form
TherGlass Concrete ® BASE COAT is one of the products that make up the repair system for existing concrete structures that present water leaks, as well as for sealing construction joints, or for repairing leaking cracks, defective construction joints and other defects.
It is normally applied on the base already prepared with TherGlass ® Concrete BARRIER COAT, so in case of direct application to the support the following instructions should be followed:
- The concrete to be treated must be clean and open-pored.
- Remove surface grout, loose or disintegrated parts, dust, dirt, grease, release agents, paint, etc.
- It is recommended to clean with sandblasting, pressurized water, steel bristle brush, mechanical brushing with a needle gun, etc.
- It's advisable to start the mixture with a portion of the planned water and blend the product at low speed for a few minutes. Always follow the powder-in-water method, never water-in-powder.
- The rest of the water will then be added until the required fluidity is obtained, mixing for a few minutes.
- Mix with a slow electric mixer or a blender for a few minutes, and in any case, until you obtain a smooth, homogeneous paste, without lumps and with the consistency required for each case.
“DRY PACK ”, or semi-dry mortar as a component of the TherGlass ® Joint System (TJS) .
- The mixing ratio is 4 parts BASE COAT to 1 part water, always by volume .
- You should only prepare the amount that you can use within 20 minutes of mixing, as it sets relatively quickly.
- Before applying BASE COAT, the substrate must be moistened to saturation, without flooding.
- TherGlass ® Concrete BASE COAT is applied with a hand tool (metal trowel, spatula, etc.) covering the surface evenly.
“SLURRY ”, for waterproof grouts in the system: (TherGlass ® Dry System) ,
- The mixing ratio is 5 parts BASE COAT to 2 parts water , always by volume.
- You should only prepare the amount that you can use within 20 minutes of mixing.
- The substrate must be moistened to saturation, without flooding, before applying BASE COAT.
- Once mixed, it can be applied with a brush, long-haired roller or mechanical spraying, in any case spreading it until the entire surface is evenly covered.
Important:
- Shake the mixture frequently during application.
- If the mixture remains consistent in the bowl, do not add more water, beat again and it will regain its initial consistency.
- During the three days following application and once the product has set initially, it should be cured by spraying it with water 2 or 3 times a day. In hot or windy conditions, double the spraying frequency, i.e., between 4 and 6 times.
- To achieve maximum penetration of the crystals into the concrete structure, the surface to be treated must be saturated with water before and after application.
Joint treatment
Joints between the various concrete elements that make up the structure: slab-to-slab, wall-to-wall, slab-to-wall, pipe passages, through holes (splits), etc., must be treated according to our recommendations in the Technical Application Bulletin (BTA-1027) (TJS). TherGlass ® Joint System.
Cleaning
Fresh tools and implements can be cleaned with water. If the material has hardened, it can only be cleaned mechanically.
Dosages and Consumption
- 1 kg per coat applied as a surface treatment such as “Slurry” or grout.
- 1 kg/m applied in the form of “Dry pack” as a component of the system (TJS). TherGlass ® Joint System.
- Consumption is theoretical and depends on the roughness of the substrate and other specific conditions of each project.
- To determine exact consumption, prior tests must be carried out on site.
Storage
Protect from sunlight and extreme temperatures. In tropical climates, the product should be stored in a cool place.
In cold climates the product should be stored at a temperature ≥ 5°C.
TherGlass Concrete ® BASE COAT has a shelf life of 12 months from the date of manufacture, if stored correctly and in its original packaging.
