It is a fast-setting waterproofing mortar, specially designed for creating waterproof plasters and/or membranes, as well as for repairing cracks, holes, and joints in concrete.

TherGlass Concrete ®   BARRIER COAT  immediately stops water leaks or seepage that flows through pores and cracks in concrete or masonry, creating a completely waterproof and watertight seal that continues to harden to very high strength.

TherGlass Concrete ®   BARRIER COAT  is the first or base product to be applied in the repair system of existing concrete structures  (TherGlass ®  Dry System) ,  which present water leaks, as well as for the sealing of construction joints, or for the repair of cracks with leaks, defective construction joints and other defects.  (TJS)  TherGlass ®  Joint System .

Specifications and application form

  • The concrete to be treated must be clean and open-pored.
  • Remove surface grout, loose or disintegrated parts, dust, dirt, grease, release agents, paint, etc.
  • It is recommended to clean with sandblasting, pressurized water, steel bristle brush, mechanical brushing with a needle gun, etc.
  • It's advisable to start the mixture with a portion of the planned water and blend the product at low speed for a few minutes. Always follow the powder-in-water method, never water-in-powder.
  • The rest of the water will then be added until the required fluidity is obtained, mixing for a few minutes.
  • Mix with a slow electric mixer or a blender for a few minutes, and in any case, until you obtain a smooth, homogeneous paste, without lumps and with the consistency required for each case.

“DRY PACK” , for waterproof plasters:

  • The mixing ratio is 4 parts TherGlass Concrete®  BARRIER COAT  to 1 part water, always by volume.
  • You should only prepare the amount that you can use within 10 minutes of mixing, as it sets very quickly.
  • Before applying TherGlass Concrete®  BARRIER COAT,  the substrate must be moistened to saturation, without flooding.
  • Apply a first layer about 2 mm thick, pressing the material firmly against the substrate to ensure adhesion, then using a metal trowel, apply the necessary successive layers up to a maximum thickness of 15 mm per layer.

SLURRY” , for waterproof grouts:

  • The mixing ratio is 5 parts TherGlass Concrete®  BARRIER COAT  to 2 parts water, always by volume.
  • You should only prepare the amount that you can use within 10 minutes of mixing, as it sets very quickly.
  • Apply a first coat on the previously moistened surface, using a brush or roller. It is important to apply this first coat in the same direction.
  • When the first coat is beginning to dry, apply a second coat in a crosswise direction. It's not necessary to moisten the first coat unless the ambient temperature is very high, in which case, spray the applied surface with water to facilitate hydration of the product.
  • You can apply as many layers as necessary to achieve the desired thickness.

IMPORTANT:

  • In the case of heavy water leaks, powdered mortar can be used directly on the surface to be sealed, by sprinkling it directly onto the surface, with the water from the leak reacting with the mortar.
  • In the case of leaks and significant water flows, first use our TherGlass Concrete ®  PLUG    to stop the leak and then carry out the treatment.
  • Once TherGlass Concrete ®  BARRIER COAT has been applied,   and before it has completely hardened, remove excess material to level the surface.
  • High temperatures reduce working time, low temperatures delay it.
  • After properly applying TherGlass Concrete ®  BARRIER COAT,   apply the TherGlass ®  Dry System  surface treatment  (TDS)  to complete the waterproofing of existing structures.
  • Refer to TherGlass Concrete ®  technical bulletins for more application information.

Joint Treatment

The joints between the different concrete elements that form the structure: slab-slab, wall-wall, slab-wall, pipe passages, through holes (spades), etc., should be treated according to our recommendations according to our Technical Bulletin Application (BTA) 1.027  (TJS) TherGlass Joint System.

Cleaning

Fresh tools and implements can be cleaned with water. If the material has hardened, it can only be cleaned mechanically.

Dosages and Consumption

The consumption of TherGlass Concrete ®   BARRIER COAT   is:

  • Under normal surface conditions, the yield per coat is 500 to 750 gr/m 2
  • For joint filling, the  TherGlass Joint System (JS)  . , 2 kg of TherGlass Concrete ®  BARRIER COAT,   fills approximately 1 liter.
  • Consumption is theoretical and depends on the roughness of the substrate and other specific conditions of each project.
  • To determine exact consumption, prior tests must be carried out on site.

Storage

Protect from solar radiation and extreme temperatures.

In tropical climates the product should be stored in a cool place.

In cold climates, the product should be stored at a temperature ≥ 5°C. TherGlass Concrete ®   BARRIER COAT   has a shelf life of 12 months from the date of manufacture when stored properly and in its original packaging.
